Looking for a Fall drive get away? How about trying The Blue Ridge Parkway? Enter the scenic 78-year old parkway in Roanoke, Virginia. The Parkway is 500 miles of Virginia’s laid-back farmsteads with North Carolina’s Appalachian hardwood forests. Make stops in North Carolina’s artsy city of Asheville, scenic Price Lake and mountain towns such as Blowing Rock, Floyd and Galax, home of the Blue Ridge Music Center. This relaxing, rolling and very iconic road will take you from 649 above sea level to more than 6,000 feet. Because of this variation, leaves change at different times throughout the fall, but mid-to late-October is a great time to catch the fall foliage.
Closer to home is the 105 mile Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park outside of Front Royal, Virginia (Skyline Drive runs along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains and offers 75 overlooks to view the Fall Foliage).
